About Mia Koo

The New York-born musical sensation Mia Koo began her journey into the arts with the classical violin in 1996. From the age of six, she studied in chamber orchestras and programs for developing musicians around NYC reaching a level 6 certification in the NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble violin contests. Her national career took off early as she embarked on House of Blues tours from coast to coast with her first successful act, The Kung Fu Girls. The band collaborated with Tom Higgenson (Plain White T’s) to produce their debut album, “Thinking of You.” This was all before she ever finished high school.

In 2007, she broke into the pop industry collaborating again with Higgenson (who by now had formed the band) to write multi-platinum single Our Time Now (#66 on Billboard Pop 100 and #29 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks). Our Time Now was also featured as the theme song for ABC Family’s Greek, appeared on American Idol, iCarly, Wii Cheer, Sims 2, and Ultimate Band. It was also featured in the Disney Channel original movie Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board and a Norwegian commercial for As the Bell Rings.

Kung Fu Girls broke up in 2009, but Mia’s career didn’t stop there. By 19, she’d already spent two years pitching to top industry artists like:

  • Britney Spears

  • P Diddy

  • Demi Lovato

  • Flo Rida

  • Selena Gomez

  • Enrique Iglesias

Mia co-wrote the 2014 song of the year in Norway for another collaboration titled Piñata with Andreas Schuller and Ricky Reed of Wallpaper ft. Inna, which was later released again through Atlantic Records asThe Cola Song. As of May 13, 2016, Mia has topped the Billboard Dance Electronic Album Chart at #4 (and iTunes Dance/Electronic Albums at #1) with her featured single on Markus Schulz’s new album, “Watch The World” with her track Summer Dream getting international radio play. The following year, Schultz featured Summer Dream in a mainstage act at the EDC festival in Las Vegas. In 2020, she co-wrote Forever Forever and was featured on Armin Van Buuren’s “A State of Trance” and ranked in the show’s song of the year contest. DJ Nifra dropped remixes of Forever Forever on the 2020 releases “In Bloom” and “Follow Me 2” which reached #1 in Beatport’s Summer 2020 chart. Now, Mia’s collaborating with Markus Schulz again to co-produce a new single Back In My Arms and new remixes for “In Bloom EP,” both dropping in Spring 2021.

Her label Shining Star Records has huge new distribution deals with The Orchard & Sony meaning loads of hot new tracks and music videos are on their way! In addition to her massive success in the music industry at large, Mia spent some diversifying her craft by writing jingles for Wind Up Records (NYC, 2012) and producing television soundtracks for Hasbro/DJ White Shadow for My Little Pony, Jem, Equestrian Girls, and Apple Jax. Her song Tonight (with Sebastian Robertson) was included in the soundtrack for the feature film trailer for Walk of Shame (Elizabeth Banks, 2014). She also performed the TV jingle for top-selling Lalaloopsy Loopy Hair doll which aired nationally in the USA and Canada.
